Henan starts early capacity cuts; aluminium, alumina prices hit fresh highs

Jiaozuo Wanfang Aluminium Manufacturing and Zhongzhou Aluminium have begun cutting capacity at their refineries in China’s Henan Province, almost two months ahead of the scheduled winter cutback set for November 15, Metal Bulletin has learnt.

Jiaozuo City in Henan is one of at least 28 cities in northern China that will be subject to restrictions on industrial production this winter, although the official curtailment period runs from November 15 until March 15. Jiaozuo’s environmental protection office ordered Jiaozuo Wanfang and Zhongzhou Aluminium, an alumina refinery belonging to Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco), to cut over 30% of their aluminium and alumina capacities from September 19 until March 15, 2018.

This cuts cause aluminium to above 150 on MCX by October End.
